Humid.

Yes, I rode to work today.

And . . .

I wasn't the only one.

Mostly the usual cast of characters, but if you look closely you see a white Ninja in there. That's the new girl in town.

Here's a better photo and it shows off the Red Fox, too.

If you think you're noticing the Red Fox at work more often, that would be true. There are three reasons. One of my neighbors hasn't been parking in their garage space. This makes it very easy to get the Kymco out in the morning even if Heather's car is still there, which it usually is. Second, I've done a redneck modification to the seat which involved a ATV seat, part of a wood bead seat cover, and some packing tape. I suspect one of these days I'll take a photo, but I'm not yet up to admitting what a cheapskate I am. The result is sort of a saddle configuration. This has added greatly to the comfort of the seat. I no longer keep sliding forward. Third, the windscreen. I love it totally.

Weather wise, the temperature didn't get quite as high as was predicted. The bad news was the heat index went higher. When I rode home the heat index was 102F/39C . Still, as long as I kept moving it wasn't too bad.

My gear consisted of a mesh jacket, vented pants, chest/back protected, and helmet.

I did see one other guy wearing a jacket, but most of the riders looked more like this guy. I suspect he thought I was as crazy for wearing what I was as I thought he was for his choice in gear.

Clouds? Not so much. It was what I call brightly overcast.

Especially, while riding toward the sun. It was hazy humid.

When I got home I looked East I saw a patch of blue sky. Perhaps rain  late tonight and the first part of the day tomorrow. We'll see. It's, also, supposed to be a little cooler. I wouldn't complain.

  • 70F/21C and clear for the ride to work.
  • 93F/34C, but it sure felt a lot warmer for the home ride.

  1. Holy Hannah! I complain about 26c here! 39 wow that is unrelenting soul sucking heat for a rider. We hit about 32 two weeks ago and now we are back to around 19C which us pleasant but a little chilly. I don't get the short wearing squid riders, it's crazy to sacrifice ones skin for riding in the summer. I actually find my mesh gear better because I am not getting sunburned. Crazy peeps. Your scoot looks lovely and I gave to say I love my windscreen as well and never take it off, even in summer. I value protection from big splatty bugs more than air flow.

    1. Dar,
It was cooler today. The "expected" weather for this time of year is hot. The weather seems determined to be unusual. The a/c is back off tonight. Ain't complaining. It just seems strange, like we're not having a summer.

I've said before a person is either a windscreen person or a non-windscreen person. Sounds like we're both windscreen people. I feel in good company.

  2. You have been a touch warm. Not liking that heat index. I saw a guy the other day wearing shorts, tank top and a helmet. Not even gloves. At least he didn't have flip-flops on while riding his sport bike.

We woke to rain and 61˚ this morning, but are supposed to be back in the 90's for the weekend.

    1. Brandy,
Tonight the a/c is off. That just doesn't seem right for July. Our budget is loving it.

The weather is weird everywhere, yes? Oh well.
