Dumb

Yes, I rode to work today.

And, this morning those who had cars parked on the street overnight woke to find frost on their windshields.

And, this morning I had the opportunity to wonder why some people think they have the power to see through windshields completely covered with frost.

That's just plain dumb.

Or why others clear a spot the size of a baseball in the frost on their windshields and seem to think that's good enough.

That's almost as dumb.

And, finally what about those who spray their windshield with their washers thinking their regular old washer fluid is going to do something other than make it worse.

Also, dumb.

This morning I saw all three of these failed strategies employed with predictable results.

Later in the day I did see another rider,

but I still haven't seen a robin since the weekend.
  • 19F/-7C with a few clouds for the ride to work.
  • 29F/-2C and overcast for the home ride.

  1. Well...you have me laughing at myself. :#^ /

I left early this AM, before sunrise. I drove out in the dark- no street lights, of course- and only my running lights on....and my windshield was frosty so I turned on my wipers, then the fluid and it helped for 3 seconds and then got worse and I COULD NOT SEE A THING.

I stopped- in the pitch dark- got out and ran the ice scraper over the windshield and got back in my car. It was at this point I realized my headlights were not on. So I turned them on AND I COULD SEE SO MUCH BETTER! And then I drove on.

Pretty soon the defroster took care of the frost. Dumb.

    1. My dumb thing is to think there isn't enough frost on the windshield to worry about and there isn't until I turn on a street facing the sun and then suddenly I'm blind. Oh well

  3. I am continually amazed at people who don't clear their windshields. That and the ones that don't clean the snow off the tops of their cars so when they press the brakes to come to a stop after their car has warmed up and they've driven a few miles the snow slides off the roof and covers their windshield.

It comes down to risk management I guess.
