No Sun In My Eyes

Yes, I rode to work today.

And . . .

There was nothing but blue sky.

By the afternoon it clouded over and even managed a sprinkle or two.

After work the sky had turned nearly silver and mostly cloudy, nearly overcast. No sun in my eyes tonight.

  • 66F/19C and blue sky for the ride to work.
  • 84F/29C and mostly cloudy for the home ride.

I'm Just Grateful

Yes, I rode to work today.

And . . .

We had really interesting clouds.

It seems this year we either have nothing but blue sky or a sky full of high boring silver clouds.

An even more unusual sight was this guy on a gas powered push scooter. I used to see them once in a while, but haven't for some time.

He's in an alley. I don't think this type of scooter is street legal in the City, and if they are I'm positive a safety flag is required.

The ride home brought almost overcast conditions. Oh well, back to silver skies.

There is no rain in the forecast, but it certainly looked like it wanted to cook something up. Tomorrow more wonderful weather is forecast. No one is complaining, but a few are wondering how bad we'll have to pay in the future for our paradise today. Me? I'm just grateful.

  • 65F/18C and interestingly cloudy for the ride to work.
  • 84F/29C and boring cloudy for the home ride.

Don't Regret My Decision.

Yes, I rode to work today.

And . . .

I heard no one complain about the weather, not even Deputy V. and he always complains about the weather. He came in this morning gushing about how wonderful the cool temperature was. "It almost feels like early Fall," he said. I'm glad he was happy. I know I was.

A question.

I'm trying to find out what this color is called. It is almost teal. I think it might be called "New Blue." I asked the Deputy who owns it what the color was called. His response? "Hell, I don't know." So, there you go.

I'd thought about taking the really long way home tonight, but Heather let me know she was going to the Botanical Gardens tonight. Leo, our cat, has relapsed. He is displaying the symptoms of an ear infection again; the pathetic head turning, the scratching, and being lethargic. I decided I'd rather be home to feed him at his accustomed time. He starts back on ear drops tomorrow. He'll love that ... not.

It sure was nice out though.

Still, I don't regret my decision.

  • 58F/14C and sunny for the ride home.
  • 81F/27C with an occasional cloud and a silver sky for the ride home.

The Long Way

Yes, I rode to work today.

And . . .

While the weather was very steamy on Saturday and very warm yesterday, today it was back to being "Resort Weather". This, plus me riding the Red Fox, meant taking the long way home.

I rode down 8th Street until it met up with Broadway.

The lights conspired against me and I didn't get a photo of the Anheuser-Busch Brewery, but I did get a photo of the old Lemp Brewery.

I didn't take a really really long way home. I, also, wanted to get in an inline skate on Grant's Trail.

It seems with the new windscreen and jury-rigged seat I'm putting some miles on the Kymco again.

  • 66F/19C and clear for the ride to work.
  • 77F/25C and mostly cloudy for the homeward ride.

Made Me Chuckle

Yes, I rode to work today.

And . . .

It wasn't supposed to rain today, but it sure looked like rain come lunchtime. I was in my usual place in the Subway across the Street from the Courthouse when two Deputies came in. One of them is a rider. "Did you ride today?" he asked me. Before I could respond the other Deputy piped up, "Did the sun come up this morning?" This made me chuckle. I guess I have a reputation.

I'd looked at radar before I left the Courthouse for lunch. The storms were mostly to our north and if we did get any rain, it appeared it would be long gone before it was time to ride home. I shared the information with the Deputies. "What's the matter didn't you bring raingear?" the non-rider Deputy asked. "Oh, I've got raingear, but that's not the point," the rider said.  He didn't clarify just what his point was, but I think the other deputy and both got it.

It did rain come mid afternoon.

And by homing time the streets were dry.

A heat advisory has been issued for tomorrow. Goodbye "Resort Weather".

  • 69F/20.5C and overcast for the ride to work.
  • 79F/26C and pretty cloudy for the home ride.

Out Late

Yes, I rode to work today.

And . . .

The tale of the motorcycle parking area was an easy read.

The weather today was back to being mighty fine.

And . . .

I had a meeting which kept me out late. So, off to bed it is.

  • 64F/18C and clear for the ride in.
  • 81F/27C and delicious for the ride home.

It Never Does

Yes, I rode to work today.

And . . .

The day started out hot and humid.

But, the rain they forecast stayed well south of us.

As the humidity lessen during the day and the sun shone bright ...

My gear seemed to taunt me. I willed five o'clock to come quickly.

It didn't. It never does.

  • 81F/27C and humid cloudy for the ride to work.
  • 84F/27C and no heat index for the home ride. Sweet.

Humid.

Yes, I rode to work today.

And . . .

I wasn't the only one.

Mostly the usual cast of characters, but if you look closely you see a white Ninja in there. That's the new girl in town.

Here's a better photo and it shows off the Red Fox, too.

If you think you're noticing the Red Fox at work more often, that would be true. There are three reasons. One of my neighbors hasn't been parking in their garage space. This makes it very easy to get the Kymco out in the morning even if Heather's car is still there, which it usually is. Second, I've done a redneck modification to the seat which involved a ATV seat, part of a wood bead seat cover, and some packing tape. I suspect one of these days I'll take a photo, but I'm not yet up to admitting what a cheapskate I am. The result is sort of a saddle configuration. This has added greatly to the comfort of the seat. I no longer keep sliding forward. Third, the windscreen. I love it totally.

Weather wise, the temperature didn't get quite as high as was predicted. The bad news was the heat index went higher. When I rode home the heat index was 102F/39C . Still, as long as I kept moving it wasn't too bad.

My gear consisted of a mesh jacket, vented pants, chest/back protected, and helmet.

I did see one other guy wearing a jacket, but most of the riders looked more like this guy. I suspect he thought I was as crazy for wearing what I was as I thought he was for his choice in gear.

Clouds? Not so much. It was what I call brightly overcast.

Especially, while riding toward the sun. It was hazy humid.

When I got home I looked East I saw a patch of blue sky. Perhaps rain  late tonight and the first part of the day tomorrow. We'll see. It's, also, supposed to be a little cooler. I wouldn't complain.

  • 70F/21C and clear for the ride to work.
  • 93F/34C, but it sure felt a lot warmer for the home ride.

No Excitement

Yes, I rode to work today.

And . . .

There was no excitement during my commute. No one passed me illegally or even tried.

It was another stunning day for early June.

The forecast is for it to turn more July-ish tomorrow.

Then turn cooler again for the weekend, but with a chance for rain.

There weren't as many bikes as I expected there to be. It was just Chieftain Rider when I got there and a Harley was had joined us by morning break. I suspect there were other bikes coming and going during the day.

One more day of low humidity.

Nice blue skies.

I suspect there will be clouds tomorrow. Maybe some cloud photos if the humidity doesn't bring haze. We'll see.

  • 70F/21C, calm and clear for the ride to work.
  • 89F/32C and clear with a nice gentle breeze for the home ride.

Grateful

Yes, I rode to work today.

And . . .

It was another lovely day.

I my way to work this morning I was illegally passed by a car. Believe it or not I was going 15mph over the speed limit, but it wasn't fast enough.

On my home, I was just enjoying the ride and traveling at the speed limit in a residential area and was passed again. This time I guess it was legal.

I am grateful the need to be in such a hurry is not a part of my life, very very grateful.

  • 65F/18C  and cloudy for the ride to work.
  • 81F/27C with a few clouds for the home ride.

Boring

Yes, I rode to work today.

And . . .

The weather continues to remind me of the best of the summers I grew up with in Michigan. It was another cool night followed by a warm day with low humidity. It just doesn't get better than that.

Tomorrow the forecast is for more of the same. I can live with that.

  • 61F/ and clear for the ride to work.
  • 78F/ and mostly cloudy for the home ride.

Full House

Yes, I rode to work today.

And . . .

So did everybody else.

There is something about a full lot. It brings a smile to my face. The woman deputy who had the black CBR now has a white Ninja. I met her today. We were leaving work at the same time.

It was another beautiful day here in the Heartland. It certainly doesn't feel like July in St.Louis. I ain't complaining.

  • 59F/15C and clear for the ride to work.
  • 77F/25C with a few clouds for the home ride.

Beautiful

Yes, I rode to work today.

And . . .

When I arrived I was surprised to find only one other bike in the lot.

But, when I went out at morning break time the lot looked different.

That's more like it, although I'd hope the deputy with the CBR would be out today. I've not met her before. I'm told she plans to ride when she doesn't have to pick up her niece after work, at least when it's nice.

It was certainly nice today.

Lots of blue sky and the temperatures would have made Goldilocks happy.

By afternoon there were even nice white fluffy clouds.

For those of you wondering about the Courthouse Bunny.

It appears to be doing just fine.

Tomorrow's weather? More of the same.

  • 62F/17C and as clear as a bell for the ride to work.
  • 75F/24C and a few clouds for the home ride

The Only One

Yes, I rode to work today.

And . . .

I was the only one who did. The forecasters were predicting a very good possibility of severe weather A cold front was to move through our area. The severe weather didn't pan out.  We did get some rain, but it was over quickly and was long gone before my ride home. Behind this "event" is suppose to be what a friend of mine calls "Resort Weather". As always, we'll see.

I didn't take any photos today, but here are some from our last Saturday's trip out to Shaw Nature Reserve. (You can click here to go to their website)

Loved this new walkway. Lots of places to hold on for those of us who are timid. Also, the water is very shallow.

This was near another pond.

I loved the swirls.

The water lilies were blooming.

I have no idea what kind of tree's fruit this is.

This is no doubt some kind of skimmer, but I figure dragonfly is close enough.

We got to the reserve early and it was warm. By the time we left in early afternoon the heat index was over 100F/38C. It was a good time to head home to the air conditioning.

The rest of the week we'll have lows in the the upper 50'sF. Quite the change. I suspect I won't be the only one in the lot tomorrow. And, besides, Chieftain Rider is due back from vacation.

  • 74F/23C and a few clouds for the ride to work.
  • 80F/27C and mostly cloudy for the home ride.

Too Busy

Yes, I rode to work today.

And . . .

I fine, but ran out of time to blog.

Have a wonderful weekend! Heather has a new lens for her camera. We'll be hunting photos :^)

  • 69F/20.5C and nothing but blue sky for the ride to work.
  • 88F/31C and some clouds for the ride home.

In Her Place

Yes, I rode to work today.

And . . .

It was another gorgeous day.

I rode Bille today.

She was pack in her place. And, Black Harley Dude has claimed his space, which displaced another regular rider, but he seems okay with it all. I do love it when a plan comes together.

  • 64F/18C and sunny for the ride to work.
  • 84F/29C and a few clouds for the home ride.

Can This Really Be St.Louis In July?

Yes, I rode to work today.

And . . .

It was a beautiful morning.

It made the morning even nicer when I got to work and saw Black Harley Dude had given me lots of room to park Billie in her nook. Of course, you'd know I'd being riding the Red Fox. Still it was obvious we have the parking deal worked out. I saw him later and thanked him.

You may have noticed I've been riding the Red Fox more lately. The reason? I've been able to get it out of the garage easily. Either Heather has been gone before I leave, or my neighbor in the garage is out and about and I can go out through his garage door. The later is what happened today. I'd planned on riding Billie today, but when I saw another opportunity to take the Fox I took it.

Again, we ended up with lots of rides in the lot.

There was even one bike I didn't recognize.

After work I managed a quick 6.6mi inline skate. I did it in 35min.  I was pleased. On my way home from the trail I saw a couple of riders.

Notice the temporary tags? Not only are they on new bikes, but the guy handled the clutch as he pulled away like a beginner rider. She was smooth. May they have great times and many safe happy miles. Seeing them was a great capstone to an already marvelous day.

  • 69F/20.5C and simply stunning for the ride to work.
  • 84F/29C with a few clouds and low humidity for the ride home.

The Storms Came

Yes, I rode to work today.

And . . .

The storms came last night. I heard some thunder, but went back to sleep. I didn't think much of it until the ride to work.

Not what I'd like to wake up to.

This one wasn't there yesterday. I was surprised by how wilted the leaves were.

As I suspected I was the only one in the lot this morning. Later on the "blue" Harley that was there yesterday showed up. And even later the Goldwing showed up. It was still there when I left for home. The Harley was long gone.

I did talk with Black Harley Dude today. My guess was correct for why he'd moved. He assured me on really windy days, if he rides, he'll leave me room to get into my safe harbor. We'll see. I have no reason to doubt his word, yet.

  • 69F/20.5C and partly cloudy for the ride to work.
  • 85F/29C with clouds and plenty of sunshine for the ride home.

It Looked To Just Be Clouds.

Yes, I rode to work today.

And . . .

Summer returned.

If when you looked at the above photo and thought, "Must be there was a good chance of rain," you would have been right.

You can imagine my surprise when I went out at morning break and discovered the Red Fox was not alone.

A pretty good looking lineup of rides, yes?

It didn't rain at all during the day. The radar looked pretty clear when I left work. I decided I'd swing by and see Mike at Taylor Motorsports. I didn't have any thing going on with either of my rides, I just hadn't seen him for a while.

I see this bike sometimes when I ride to work. I've wanted to take a photo of it. It seems when it's parked on the street I either don't have my camera with me or I'm running late. And, there it was parked by Mike's Shop.

I hung out with Mike for a while and when I came out it had cooled off and was looking stormy. I made some comment about having fooled around long enough to get wet. He looked at his phone and told me it looked to just be clouds. I didn't put on my rain jacket, but I did put my phone in my waterproof backpack.

Yep, it was mostly clouds and thunder and lightning, and rain. At least there wasn't any hail. Some areas reported golf ball size hail. I'm not disappointed to have missed out on that. Mike is a great mechanic. As a meteorologist? Not so much.

We're now under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 03:30. Tomorrow? It will be interesting to see how many rides are parked in the lot.

  • 79F/26C and mostly cloudy for the ride to work.
  • 86F/30C and a T-storm for the ride home.
