Memories

Yes, I rode to work today.

It was pretty much a gray day. When I was out at lunch it was spitting an occasional snowflake. Even the temperature stayed pretty much the same all day.

I left work early. Heather and I are planning to attend the Paco Pena concert tonight. I took a couple of hours of vacation time so I could have some transition time. I dislike being rushed.

I noticed Dale Robertson died today. When I was a kid my Mom and Dad worked at the Stockyards on Mondays. It was open one day a week and the sale would go on until all the livestock was sold. This meant it was a late night for my folks. We would stay with my Grandpa and Grandma. I remember watching Tales of Wells Fargo at their house.

I must admit TV Westerns were a big part of my growing up. Two of my most favorites were Wells Fargo and Have Gun -Will Travel. It has occurred to me as I wander around on my steel horse perhaps my enjoyment of riding owes something to these memories.
  • 33F/1C and cloudy for the ride to work.
  • 34F/1C and cloudy for the home ride.

  1. The Paco Pena concert looks very interesting. Well worth a couple of hours of vacation time. I suspect my family would enjoy seeing it, if only it was on a weekend.

    1. It was wonderful. Tomorrow night we're going to see the Al-Andalus Ensemble at Union Avenue Christian Church. I'm looking forward to that, but Paco Pena is an amazing talent.

  2. Spookyyyyy. I, too, noticed about Dale. I had a crush on him when I was little and that was one of my favorite shows. He was a cutie, a gentleman and I loved his voice and dimples.

And I have little doubt that our steel horses (well, mine is...plastic) have a connection to those old Westerns we loved.

    1. My sister had a crush on Peter Brown who played the deputy on a show called The Lawman.

I think the thing I enjoyed about Dale Robertson was he seemed to be the real deal. And, as near as I can tell he was.

  3. I didn't know about Dale's passing but can certainly picture him in a hat.

Concert looks like great fun Keith, hope you enjoy! I'd never heard of them before....was enough to make me dial up my Gypsy Kings' Hotel California.

    Ride safe today?

    1. The concert was phenomenal. I'm really glad I went. I've always enjoyed Flamenco and this company is superb. Grateful I got to see him.
