Opening Day

Yes, I rode to work today.

It was the first day for wearing the warm weather gear. Apparently, I look much different in beige rather than black. The deputy at security didn't recognize me. He isn't the regular deputy, but still. It was very funny.

Today was the home opener for the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball team. St. Louis is pretty crazy in love with their baseball team and Opening Day is a big deal.

There were people everywhere.

The weather couldn't have been more perfect.

I'm not sure how much these kids cared about the Cardinals, but they sure seemed happy the sprinklers were back on.

Another sign of Spring greeted me on the way home.

Colors of Spring is fully stocked and going to town. Two weekends ago there was nothing on the shelves or in the yard. Last weekend there were some flowers, but now it is really cookin'.

And, the trees are blooming.

t certainly appears to be Springtime in St. Louis.

  • 63F/17C with a few clouds for the ride to work.
  • 78F/26C and sort of cloudy for the home ride.

  1. I couldn't care less about baseball, I grew up with football (soccer), and that's still my favourite spectator sport ;-)

    1. Growing up I didn't even know there was a world crazy over a different kind of football than the one I played. I actually knew about lacrosse before I knew about soccer. St.Louis is actually I very big soccer area. Soccer was the only organized sport my son played, and not for long. He was a competitive weightlifter for a while, but discovered he just doesn't really like competition.

  2. Hooray for springtime and blooming trees and flowers.

I'm with Sonja on baseball. It's not that I play favorites, I don't watch any sports.

    1. I played American rules football, basketball, and baseball. Baseball was probably my best sport. Football was my passion. Basketball was something to do while waiting out the snow time. Later in life lacrosse became a passion until the head injury ended all that. Heather is a Cardinal fanatic. I like baseball, but not so much to watch as to follow the stats. I love looking over the box scores. As far as watching sports I think I like T-ball best.

  3. 78F??? Here in St. Paul it looks like we'll be lucky to break 40 before the weekend. Enjoy the nice weather!

    1. Actually, we may be back in the forties by the weekend. Springtime in the Midwest is often a roller coaster.

  4. Keith I was in Portland Oregon two weeks ago and all the cherry trees were in bloom, it was amazing.

It's more appropriate to go from black to beige for warm weather than what I do which is the reverse. I have to say in my defence that my Airflow jacket has ample light grey panels and feels like wearing an air conditioner once you hit 5 mph.

They we're going here, with more snow in the forecast this week, my Airflow jacket might never make it out of the closet.

    1. I've worn mesh the last two days, but I suspect that will change tomorrow. It has been way above the average temperature the last couple of days. That will change, but I'm loving it while it's here.

  5. Yep, Opening Day in Cincy...the beginning of the good life for me too!

    Go Reds!

    1. Still more of a Tiger fan than a Cardinal fan, but really appreciate the rivalry that is growing up between the Reds and the Cardinals. The Reds sort of spoiled the Opener for the Cards, but man the weather was gorgeous!

  6. I'm not a baseball fan either, really easy to say with our newish stadium and these early games outside; the boys need snow-suits. Hopefully the robins, cardinals, red winged blackbirds and the bluebird I saw Sunday afternoon will be ready for our predicted snowstorm.

    1. I've play baseball in temperatures that were obscene. Even if you hit the ball cleanly it would make your hands sting. Oh well, no more.

I miss the Twinkies big old baggy. Actually, before I got hit by the car a couple a year ago last July, I'd been hoping to inline skate in the marathon they have in the Metrodome.

I don't think that's ever going to happen, although my times are picking up a little this Spring.
