A Little More Ride Home

Yes, I rode to work today.

And after work I rode out into the County to attend a class. This meant Isabelle got to go to work today.

On our way to class we rode through the Grove neighborhood. I've mentioned this neighborhood before. There is a real and very visible effort going on to create something special in one of the "seen better days" area of the City. One of the ways this manifests itself is in the murals showing up on the side of buildings.

I don't know if this one is recent or not. I do know I hadn't noticed it before. I like it.

As one leaves the Grove there is a bridge on a major cross street. There is one particular view I am drawn to. I haven't been sure why. There is something about the lines that appeal to me and looked familiar somehow.

I think perhaps I figured out at least some of why I like this bridge. Last weekend Heather and I went hiking at Castlewood State Park. I spied this guy on the trail.

Look familiar?
  • 72F/22C with some clouds for the ride to work.
  • 86F/30C and both bright and cloudy for the ride West.

  1. I'm in an extreme anti-bug mood, but what is that creature? The ONLY other time I have seen one of those was in StL at the botanical gardens!

    1. I don't know what it is. I pointed it out to some children who said it was a centipede, and I said, it had way too many legs it had to be a millipede. Of course, I was being "smart" and clueless. It was the first time I'd ever seen it.

Speaking of ticks I've had three this season and that's two more than I've had over the last five years. Must be a good Spring for them :^(

    1. Brandy got onto my thinking. There is something organic about the movement of the bridge. It is like it is moving over the rail tracks rather than just going over top of them. I suspect what I'm reacting to is this "aliveness" captured within the inanimate. I think Frank Lloyd Wright was a master at this, of setting up a resonance between the inanimate and the living space.

The bug? I haven't a clue what it is, but as bugs go it was impressive.

  3. I see what you did there. The 'bug' does look like the lines of the bridge. Good eye Keith, good eye.

The mural with the bikes is really neat. Someone was creative.

    1. I need to spend some time walking this neighborhood and really trying to "see" the murals. It seems every time I go through the neighborhood there are more.

I'm glad you caught what I saw. I thought maybe it was just in "my head", but you saw it, too. Yay! this proves I'm only slightly demented :^)
