National Ride To Work Day

Yes, I rode to work today.

0710CDT

Today was National Ride To Work Day.

I wasn't the only one who rode to work. I was a little surprised since there was a significant chance for rain after 2pm.

And rain it did. It started a little after 2pm and rained steady. At times in was very heavy. The Flash Flood Alerts on my phone kept expanding as the storm basically stopped right over St. Louis.

When I came out after work it there were only two bikes left. I'm still getting to know the riding habits of the Yamaha rider. There were many of my co-workers taken completely by surprise by the rain. I wonder if the Yamaha rider was, too. Then again, it could be he is a daily rider. Time will tell.

It rained pretty heavy all the way home, there was even some thunder and lightning. I did see some hearty lasses who weren't about to let a little rain stand in the way of having ice cream.
  • 74F/23C and a little hazy for the ride to work.
  • 70F/21C with some heavy rain and a thunderstorm for the home ride.

  1. Nice to see so many bikes ride yesterday even with the threat of rain.

Sadly I didn't see one other motorcyclist when I rode to work or rode home.

    1. Sadly, I don't think the bikes were there for the Ride to Work Day. I think they just didn't check the forecast closely. Still, last year there were only two bikes in the parking area, so it was a massive improvement whether by accident or design.

  2. My motorcycle is "down" at the moment, so I didn't ride. It's pretty hard for me to convince myself to make a 36 mile commute in the summer, anyway. Just too, too hot! I suppose all of those people who ride in short pants and no helmet don't think it's bad, but 95 degrees in the afternoon with a jacket, even a really airy one, just isn't worth it to me.

But I do usually ride on ride-to-work day. Currently waiting on a new rear sprocket. Since I don't think my wife will let me work on it in the house, it may not get done until late September! (Just kidding.)

    1. Heat is a challenge especially with high humidity.

The joke was since I ride to work everyday I should take the day off. I have a friend here in St. Louis who rides year around. She and I check each morning to see if the other rode or not. It's not a competition as such, but.... Anyway, Monday is her day off. She never rides on Ride To Work Day. She rode anyway, but not to work. She took a nice long ride out to the country for lunch.
