It Was Drier

Yes, I rode to work today.

It stopped raining sometime during the night, but because the air remained heavy the streets remained moist. On the way into work I encountered some slimy slippery spots at stops. It was like when it first rains and all the oil and crap hasn't washed away. One place was so bad that after I took off whenever I up-shifted my heel kept slipping off the lever.

When I got to work a couple of co-workers commented on how much nicer and safer my ride must have been this morning versus last evenings ride home in the rain. I thought about explaining to them how and why that just wasn't the case, but decided better of it. I've tried being enlightening to non-riders often enough to know better. I've watched the impatient meter rise and the "fidgets" begin more times than I'm proud of. I can sometimes be a slow learner. Instead, I just said, "Well, it was drier."

A big storm blew though Downtown this afternoon. It certainly washed the streets clear. It was finished before it was time to ride home.

Lots of puddles on the streets and in my alley, but no raindrops fell on my head today.
  • 49F/9C and overcast for the ride to work.
  • 56F/13C and dark for the ride home.

  1. "Impatient meter". Boy, do I understand that! Too bad for those who don't engage!

  3. Tiny: Glad you recognize the phenomenon. Hopefully you've not experienced your own going off too often.

  4. Len: Thanks for the good wishes for the Season. I truly attempt to manage risks. Here it seems sometimes the ground sweats. On those days it can be surprisingly slick. I've learned to be leery on such days.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a wonderful Season as well.
